Ou ow ouch!
Our sound this week is 'ou'. But just to make things even trickier, there are 2 ways to write the sound. Play a game to make ou and ow words here:

Mighty measuring
We have been doing lots of measuring in First Grade this week. We have been using rulers to measure in centimetres and metre sticks for longer things. We are learning how to estimate how long something is first before we measure also. Practice your estimating here:

Brilliant day out at Basondo
First Grade had an amazing time today at Basondo meeting all the animals and learning lots of information about the animals that live around us in the Basque country.
We met Lola the deer who loves to be stroked.
Morgan the fox who likes to play.
The shy lynx with tufts on his ears.
And we really liked watching the acrobatic coati from South America.

What's the time, Mr. Wolf?
We have been learning how to tell the time in First Grade using clocks with hands and also digital clocks. Practice telling the time here: http://resources.oswego.org/games/StopTheClock/sthec1.html
Can you beat the clock?
Can you beat the clock?
Today we read the Lorax at story time and thought about how we can help look after our planet and the plants and animals that we share our Earth with. First Grade planted trees kindly donated by Iris' dad on the last day of term before Easter. There are some photos of this on the school website: http://www.asob.es/en/

Growing and hunting for plants
We have started a new Science unit 'Plants and Animals in the local Environment'. We started by looking at seeds and talked about what they need to grow. We wanted to test our ideas and so we made predictions about which seeds would grow in different conditions. We are now just waiting for our results.
This week we will be hunting around school for different types of plants and will looking at the life cycle of a tomato plant.
